Ambassadors Resourcing is looking to recruit on behalf of North-East Birmingham Family Hub. They are looking for an experienced long-term, temporary Family Practitioner SEND in Birmingham’s Family Hubs, To deliver services in the community and in family homes which specifically support children with SEND and their families having a primary focus on 0-5 within the 0-19 model, with flexibility for 5-19 and a "whole family approach" which includes on-going and sustained development of Family Hubs.


Job Description
To plan, provide and promote positive play within targeted ’stay and play’ groups ensuring they reflect the needs of the children and families, including providing specific advice and information support.


To provide specific activities and strategies parents can use in the home to develop their child’s needs and undertake home visits to support with implementation.


To be aware of the services’ responsibilities according to the SEND Code of Practice and ensure these are incorporated into daily practice.


To ensure children’s learning is observed, recording achievement and planning future learning opportunities tailored to individual needs


To ensure timely recording of all contacts with the family using available systems.


To work flexibly and deliver services across the service as directed.
To keep up to date with knowledge and practice in young children’s development of speech and language and SEND.


To link with the Speech and Language Therapy team, Health and Social Care professionals, Early Support, area SENCO Team, partner organisations and other organisations as required, ensuring appropriate referrals are made to make sure preventative work is effective.

To plan and deliver a rolling programme of specific play activities to promote the development of speech, language and communication skills in young children, where there is an identified need.


To provide guidance and support to families on childcare options, child develop-ment, child and home safety, healthy lifestyle choices, and early education.


To promote early literacy and brain development initiatives including but not limited to Book Start; Look, Say, Sing, Play; Tiny Happy People, First Words Together.


To communicate key messages to pregnant and new parents in relation to attachment and bonding with their baby, providing support in a clear and empathetic manner.


To work with the parents of children under 5 who require support with their child’s emotional health and behaviour.


To plan and deliver group intervention programmes and workshops, including ev-idence-based programmes to promote Positive Parenting, Healthy Lifestyle Choices, Home Safety and Early Language/Literacy.


To plan and provide group sessions promoting parents as their child’s first and best educator, building their confidence to develop their child’s speech and language through play activities with their children.


To attend and participate in multi-agency meetings as required and provide reports.




Requirements
The successful Family Practitioner SEND must have:


NVQ 3 Children’s Care Learning & Development or equivalent
Level 3 Early Years SENCO qualification or work-ing towards/willing to undertake
General education to GCSE standard preferably including Maths and English Language Grade C and above or equivalent.


Experience of developing positive relationships with children under 5 and their parents/carers enabling them to participate in the play / activity session.


Experience of setting up enabling environments


Experience of collating and maintaining monitoring information


Experience of undertaking outreach work within the community


Experience of working with SEND needs and their families


Experience of working with parents and carers including providing support and guidance


Experience of working in partnership with other professionals and agencies


Experience of home visiting


Experience of maintaining record keeping using systems and protocols, including conducting risk assessments


Experience of planning and delivering workshops to groups of parents and 1:1 support


Experience of making effective referrals to external agencies to support children with undiagnosed needs


Excellent interpersonal and communication skills – effective with a range of people including parents and carers


Able to design, plan and run groups in the community


Excellent verbal and non verbal communication skills with babies and children under 5, including with children who have SEND
