We’re looking for enthusiastic and reliable Cover Supervisors to support secondary schools across Barnsley. Whether you’re considering a future career in teaching, have experience working with young people, or simply enjoy helping students succeed, we’d love to hear from you.
What’s a Cover Supervisor?Think of yourself as the calm, confident presence that keeps learning on track when teachers are absent.
You’ll deliver pre-planned lessons, manage classroom behaviour, and ensure students stay engaged with their work. No lesson planning. No late-night marking. Just the opportunity to make a positive difference every day.
It’s a brilliant role for aspiring teachers, graduates, youth workers, sports coaches, teaching assistants, or anyone with experience supporting young people.
Your day-to-day responsibilitiesYou’ll be:
*Supervising whole classes during teacher absences
*Delivering pre-prepared lesson materials across a range of subjects
*Managing classroom behaviour and maintaining a positive learning environment
*Encouraging students to stay focused and complete their work
*Supporting pupils with questions about the tasks set
*Reporting back to teaching staff at the end of lessons
*Building positive relationships with students and school staff
No need to be a subject specialist. Schools provide all lesson materials and guidance needed for each class.

No classroom teaching qualification is required, although previous school experience is beneficial.
