Harper May is working with an established property and construction firm that has grown significantly over the past three years through both organic expansion and selective acquisitions. The business manages a diverse portfolio of residential and commercial projects, with a team of 80+ across London and the South East. Recent funding has enabled investment in systems and processes, and the finance function is now being strengthened to support this growth trajectory.
The Role
Reporting to the Finance Manager, you will own the month-end close, produce accurate management accounts, and ensure project profitability is tracked and understood in real time. This role exists because the business has outgrown its current financial reporting capability and needs someone who can bring rigour to project costing and cash flow visibility across an increasingly complex pipeline.
*Close the general ledger each month and produce management accounts with clear variance reporting
*Build and maintain project budgets, tracking spend against forecast and identifying cost overruns early
*Manage work-in-progress valuations and margin analysis across live developments
*Reconcile balance sheet items and lead statutory accounts preparation with the external auditor
*Produce cash flow forecasts and monitor working capital across the project estate
*Work with site managers and operations to validate costs and resolve coding queries
*Identify process improvements and implement tighter controls over expenditure
What we are looking for

*ACA, ACCA, or CIMA qualified, or studying towards a relevant qualification
*Prior experience in construction, property development, or another project-driven business
*Solid grounding in project costing, WIP, and margin analysis
*Proficiency with spreadsheet modelling and comfort with accounting software
*Ability to translate financial data into clear insight for non-finance stakeholders
*Self-starter who thrives in a fast-moving environment
