Full job descriptionHarper May is working with a London-based technology company backed by experienced founders and angel investors. The business has grown steadily over the past three years, now serving a growing client base across Europe. As the company prepares for the next phase of growth and organisational maturity, they are strengthening their finance function and seeking a Financial Controller to build rigour and visibility across the business.
The Role

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, you will manage the full finance operations function, from transactional control through to external reporting. The role is hands-on: you will own the close cycle, lead the finance team, and ensure controls are robust and proportionate as the business scales. You will also be the bridge between the finance team and the wider leadership, translating numbers into insight that shapes commercial decisions.
*Own the monthly close, preparing management accounts and supporting variance analysis
*Build and oversee the finance control framework, including reconciliations, journals, and balance sheet sign-off
*Lead statutory accounts preparation and external audit delivery
*Manage payroll, tax, and compliance responsibilities
*Develop financial forecasting and cash flow monitoring alongside the leadership team
*Recruit and mentor a small finance team as the business grows
What we are looking for
*ACA, ACCA, or CIMA qualified
*Experience as a Financial Controller or similar senior finance role, preferably in technology or a fast-growing business
*Solid foundation in technical accounting, including IFRS principles and revenue recognition
*Proven ability to lead a close cycle and manage external audits confidently
*Clear communicator who can explain finance to non-finance audiences
*Practical, pragmatic, and comfortable solving problems with incomplete information
