About the RoleTeaching Personnel are seeking a resilient, empathetic, and motivated Teaching Assistant to work within a Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) serving the Newport area.
This provision supports learners referred from primary and secondary schools, as well as the Local Authority. Pupils may have a range of additional learning needs (ALN), including social, emotional, and behavioural difficulties (SEBD), and the provision focuses on delivering short-term, tailored support to help them successfully transition back into mainstream education where appropriate.
The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting pupils on a 1:1 basis or in small groups, helping to re-engage them in education and build confidence, resilience, and positive behaviours.
Key Responsibilities*Support pupils with social, emotional, behavioural and additional learning needs
*Work 1:1 or in small groups to re-engage learners with education
*Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils and staff
*Promote a safe, structured and encouraging environment
*Support pupils with emotional regulation and behaviour management
*Assist in delivering tailored learning activities and intervention support
*Encourage positive transitions back into mainstream school settings
*Follow safeguarding policies and contribute to pupil wellbeing
Requirements*Right to work in the UK
*Enhanced Child DBS (or willingness to obtain one)
*Registration with the EWC (Education Workforce Council)
*Two professional references covering the last 24 months
*Level 2 Safeguarding training (provided)
Experience working with vulnerable learners, ALN, or behaviour support is desirable, but we also welcome candidates with transferable skills or strong personal experience and a willingness to learn.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
