Position Summary
This role is responsible for supporting the build, upkeep, testing, and operational readiness of hydraulic and mechanical equipment. Working primarily in a workshop environment, the Hydraulic Technician ensures systems are assembled, maintained, and commissioned to meet operational and safety standards.
You will contribute across the full equipment lifecycle — from initial build and installation through to refurbishment, testing, mobilisation, and fault resolution — ensuring all systems are delivered fit for purpose.
Key Responsibilities
Hydraulic Build & Installation
*Construct and install hydraulic systems such as HPUs, manifolds, pipework, and hose assemblies
*Follow engineering drawings and schematics to complete accurate builds
*Ensure correct fitting, routing, and torqueing of components
*Support equipment upgrades and new build projects
Inspection, Maintenance & Overhaul
*Carry out routine inspection and servicing of hydraulic systems
*Assist with equipment refurbishment and overhaul activities
*Identify faults including wear, contamination, or performance issues
*Help maintain asset condition in line with operational standards
Testing & Commissioning
*Perform system flushing in accordance with cleanliness requirements
*Conduct pressure testing and functional checks
*Assist with commissioning activities including factory and site acceptance testing
*Verify system integrity and performance prior to deployment
Diagnostics & Fault Finding
*Troubleshoot hydraulic issues such as leaks, pressure loss, and inefficiencies
*Support root cause investigations and corrective actions
*Work alongside other disciplines (mechanical/electrical) to resolve issues
*Escalate more complex technical problems when required
Operational Support
*Prepare equipment for mobilisation and project delivery
*Assist with demobilisation and reinstatement tasks
*Ensure all systems are ready for use and meet project requirements
*Contribute to general workshop and yard operations
Documentation & Compliance
*Complete work records including testing and inspection documentation
*Update internal systems to maintain accurate tracking of work completed
*Follow internal procedures and ensure full traceability of tasks
Health & Safety
*Adhere to all safety policies when working with high-pressure systems
*Identify and report hazards or unsafe conditions
*Take responsibility for safe working practices at all times
*Stop work where standards are not being met

Skills & Experience Required
Essential:
*Engineering apprenticeship or equivalent qualification
*Formal training in hydraulics (Level 2 or equivalent)
*Hands-on experience with hydraulic systems (HPUs, hoses, pipework)
*Ability to read and understand technical drawings and schematics
Preferred:
*Experience in system flushing, testing, and commissioning
*Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills
*Basic IT skills and familiarity with digital maintenance systems
