About the RoleWe are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Level 1 Teaching Assistant to join our team at a welcoming primary school in the Wirral. The successful candidate will provide 1:1 support for a pupil with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), helping them to access learning and develop independence within the classroom.
This role requires a patient, nurturing individual who is confident in supporting children with additional needs and committed to inclusive education.
Key Responsibilities*Provide 1:1 tailored support for a pupil with ASD
*Use Makaton and a total communication approach to support understanding and expression
*Implement strategies to support pupils with:
*Autism (ASD)
*ADHD
*Global Developmental Delay
*Support sensory regulation, particularly for a sensory-seeking pupil
*Assist with intimate care needs in a respectful and dignified manner
*Work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to deliver personalised support plans
*Promote positive behaviour, engagement, and emotional wellbeing
Essential Requirements*Experience working with children with ASD and additional needs
*Knowledge and practical experience of Makaton
*Understanding of ADHD, sensory needs, and global developmental delay
*Experience providing intimate care
*Ability to use a total communication approach
*A clear, confident communicator with strong interpersonal skills
*Calm, patient, and adaptable approach to supporting pupils
Desirable*Previous experience in a primary school setting
*Relevant Teaching Assistant qualification (Level 1 or equivalent)
*Experience supporting sensory regulation strategies
