We are seeking an Interim Service Director of Environment to lead the Environment function. As a pivotal member of the Place Leadership Team, this role involves supporting the Director in the strategic development, delivery, and implementation of directorate and corporate strategies and policies. This position offers the opportunity to significantly impact communities by enhancing the safety and efficiency of environmental services.
Day-to-day of the role:
*Lead the development and delivery of a consolidated Highways service that aligns with organisational strategic direction, focusing on road safety and highways asset & traffic management.
*Oversee regulatory, enforcement, and neighbourhood response functions to deliver a proactive service that ensures a safe and prosperous environment for residents.
*Develop and implement best practice corporate resilience, emergency planning, and business continuity services in collaboration with strategic partners, ensuring preparedness to respond effectively to emergencies.
*Provide strategic leadership across the Environment Service, fostering a positive working environment that enables staff to deliver impactful services to improve community outcomes.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
*Detailed knowledge of legislation related to highways, street scene, regulation, and enforcement.
*Extensive experience managing a range of services including strategy and performance activities at a senior level within a complex organisation.
*Proven track record of working successfully with internal and external partners to achieve cross-organisational goals.
*Innovative thinking and an ability to approach challenges creatively.
*Experience in building and maintaining effective relationships with elected officials, senior stakeholders, and partners.
*Demonstrated ability to foster a positive working environment that embraces change and continually improves service outcomes.
