Full job descriptionAn exciting and rewarding opportunity has become available for experienced and compassionate SEN Tutors to support secondary-aged students who are experiencing Emotionally Based School Avoidance, as well as students with EHCPs who are currently unable to access full-time education.
Working with a secondary school in the London Borough of Wandsworth, you will provide personalised 1:1 tuition and pastoral support, helping students re-engage with learning, build confidence, and work towards a successful return to school and improved attendance.
We are looking for tutors who have experience supporting young people with additional needs and understand the barriers that can prevent students from accessing education. The successful candidate will be patient, adaptable, emotionally intelligent, and able to build positive, trusting relationships with students who may have experienced prolonged periods out of school.
This is far more than a traditional tutoring role. It is an opportunity to make a genuine difference by helping students rebuild confidence in education, develop positive learning routines, and successfully reintegrate into a school environment.

*EHCPs and additional educational needs
*Anxiety surrounding school attendance
*Medical or social-emotional barriers affecting access to education
Support will primarily focus on the core curriculum subjects:

*Build positive, trusting relationships that encourage engagement with learning.
*Support students in developing confidence, resilience, and independence.
*Identify and reduce barriers to learning through patient and flexible teaching strategies.
*Monitor progress and provide feedback to the school and consultant where required.
*Work collaboratively with school staff, SENCOs, parents/carers, and other professionals to support positive outcomes.
*Encourage consistent engagement with education while promoting academic and personal development.
Tuition Locations
Tuition will be delivered in a variety of settings depending on the individual student’s needs and agreed educational plan. Sessions may take place:
*In the student’s home.
*Within the school setting.
*In suitable public or community locations such as libraries or community hubs.
All tuition is delivered on a one-to-one basis in a safe and supportive learning environment.
Reintegration Support
A key focus of this role is supporting students to successfully re-engage with education and, where appropriate, work towards returning to full-time school attendance.
Tutors will play an important role in:
*Rebuilding students’ confidence in learning.
*Reducing anxiety surrounding education and school attendance.
*Establishing positive learning routines.
*Supporting emotional wellbeing and motivation.
*Gradually increasing engagement with education.
*Working alongside schools and families to support successful reintegration plans.
*Helping improve attendance and long-term educational outcomes.
Every student’s programme will be individualised, with reintegration plans tailored to their specific needs and circumstances.
Hours & Flexibility
Working hours will vary depending on each student’s individual requirements and timetable.
The number of hours available will be discussed with your consultant before placement and may increase or decrease in line with the student’s educational needs and progress.
This role offers excellent flexibility and can be suitable for tutors seeking part-time or additional work.
