Let’s share one of the good bits first: this isn’t a five-days-a-desk kind of job. Most of your week is wherever you do your best thinking and you’ll be agile in supporting a wide range of budget holders, but you can do it as best suit you, and that could be mostly via TEAMS with in person meetings when appropriate.

The office is somewhere you’ll be between one day a month and one day a week — enough to actually know your colleagues’ names and laughs, not so much that your commute eats your life.

Who you’d be working for - a genuinely lovely not-for-profit that exists to support and strengthen people across the country. The kind of place where the work matters and the people are kind and yes, "we value flexibility and wellbeing" is on the careers page, but here they actually mean it.

What the role actually is You’d be one of two Finance Business Partners, each looking after a portfolio of business units. Think of yourself as the trusted finance brain that around c35 Budget Holders come to, not the person who just says "no" and disappears, but you’ll be someone who helps them understand the numbers and make better decisions because of it.

It’s hands-on and refreshingly outward-facing. You’ll be visible, you’ll be useful, and your insight will genuinely shape decisions rather than getting filed and forgotten.

Day to day, you’ll be:
*The go-to finance contact for your portfolio, you’ll be building real relationships, offering clear insight and the occasional well-placed challenge
*Pulling together timely analysis and commentary, supporting the monthly finance report and explaining what the variances are actually telling us
*Leading budget setting, quarterly forecasting and in-year monitoring so money gets spent wisely
*Handling month-end - journals, accruals, deferrals, recharges
*Owning pay forecasting and establishment controls, including payroll checks and a bit of workforce modelling
*Supporting contract and grant income some pricing, invoicing schedules, restricted funds and keeping funders updated.
*Coaching non-finance colleagues so finance stops feeling like a foreign language to them.
*Keeping the reporting systems, procedures and documentation in good nick (and making them better where you can)
Who we’re hoping you are:
*Around three years in a similar finance or business partnering role, somewhere with a bit of complexity and more than one income stream
*Comfortable with budgeting, forecasting and financial analysis
*A clear communicator who can explain finance to people who’d rather not think about it, and challenge constructively
*Organised and proactive - you can juggle competing priorities and still hit tight deadlines
*Solid Excel (pivot tables and lookups are your friends) and happy in finance systems and reporting tools
*The sort of mind that turns a column of numbers into "here’s what this means and here’s what we should do"
Nice if you have it, but absolutely not a dealbreaker:
*Part or fully qualified (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) — or studying towards it
*Time spent in a charity or not-for-profit before
