An established specialist school in Worthing is seeking a committed SEN Teaching Assistant to join its secondary-phase team from September 2026. The school supports autistic learners and students with complex communication needs, offering a highly structured, nurturing environment where every young person is encouraged to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. The school offers a structured, low-arousal environment with a strong emphasis on emotional wellbeing, personalised learning, and therapeutic collaboration.

Your new role
*Work closely with teachers, therapists, and behaviour specialists to support students aged 11-16
*Provide individualised learning support, including communication-focused interventions and sensory-aware classroom practice
*Assist with personalised timetables, small-group learning, and community-based activities
*Contribute to a calm, predictable environment that prioritises emotional regulation and positive relationships
*Helping students access learning through visual scaffolding, sensory-friendly approaches, and communication-support strategies
*Working 1:1 and in small groups to build confidence, independence, and emotional regulation
*Collaborating with teachers, speech therapists, and behaviour practitioners


What you’ll need to succeed
*Experience supporting young people with autism, social communication differences, or SEMH needs
*Confident using visual supports, structured routines, and de-escalation strategies
*Understanding of autism-friendly practice and trauma-informed approaches
*Patient, resilient, and able to build trust with learners who may require additional time and consistency
*A team player who values collaboration and reflective practice
*Desireable - Qualification as a Teaching Assistant or Qualification within SEN
