Full job descriptionAre you a technically strong ACCA or ACA qualified accountant looking for your next challenge? We’re looking for an experienced Financial Accountant to join an established business, based in Dorset, on a 6-month fixed term contract. You’ll play a key role in delivering high-quality statutory and regulatory reporting while supporting the continuous improvement of their finance function.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys technical accounting, working with auditors, leading process improvements and developing others within a collaborative finance team.
Hybrid working - only 2 days per month required in the offices
The Role
Reporting to the Senior Financial Accountant, you’ll take ownership of key financial reporting activities across the group, ensuring compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements while supporting the delivery of accurate and timely financial information.
Key responsibilities include:
*Preparing statutory accounts for subsidiary companies and supporting the production of consolidated group accounts.
*Coordinating external regulatory reporting
*Preparing and submitting group VAT returns, liaising with HMRC and external VAT advisers, and responding to VAT queries.
*Supporting the year-end audit process by managing auditor requests and providing technical accounting support.
*Producing additional external reporting
*Supporting the business on technical accounting matters and keeping up to date with changes to accounting standards and reporting requirements.
*Leading continuous improvement initiatives to strengthen financial controls, reporting processes and efficiencies.
*Line managing and developing an Assistant Financial Accountant through coaching, delegation and regular one-to-one meetings.
You’ll ideally have:
*Qualified ACCA, ACA or CIMA status.
*At least two years’ post-qualification experience in financial or statutory accounting.
*Strong experience preparing statutory accounts and supporting year-end audits.
*Experience of group consolidations and technical financial reporting.
*Knowledge of VAT, with experience preparing VAT returns.
*Excellent Excel skills and experience using financial accounting systems.
*Experience managing or mentoring team members.
*Strong analytical skills with excellent attention to detail.
*The ability to manage multiple deadlines and prioritise competing workloads.
