What you’ll be doing:


The Head of Investment Risk Oversight will provide second-line risk oversight and challenge for an FCA-regulated subsidiary, People’s Investment Limited. People’s Investment Limited advises the Trustee Board of The People’s Pension, a £37bn UK DC Master Trust, and oversees outsourced providers such as custodians and asset managers.


The Head of Investment Risk Oversight is responsible for second-line oversight of investment management operations, investment advisory activities, and broader financial risk across all pension fund portfolios and investment vehicles. This role ensures robust governance, independent challenge, and strategic alignment of investment risk practices with regulatory expectations and fiduciary responsibilities. This role will also play a critical part in shaping investment risk strategy, contributing to risk appetite setting, and ensuring an effective control environment within investment processes.


The Head of Investment Risk Oversight will be an integral member of the risk leadership team, reporting to the Enterprise Risk Director with a dotted line to the Chief Risk Officer. The role will work closely with the first-line, 20-strong investment team, which currently provides input across a range of advisory activities covering all funds and asset classes.


*Establish and maintain a robust investment risk framework aligned to regulatory expectations and organisational strategy.
*Provide independent second-line oversight and challenge of investment strategies, proposals, and risk analytics.
*Monitor and assess portfolio risks across asset classes, including market, credit, liquidity, and ESG considerations.
*Lead governance, policy development, and regulatory engagement to ensure effective investment risk management.
*Partner with investment teams and senior stakeholders to drive risk awareness, reporting, and continuous improvement.


What we’re looking for:


*Extensive experience in investment risk management within pensions, asset management, or insurance.
*Strong understanding of institutional investment strategies and risk analytics.
*Proven leadership experience in a second-line risk oversight role.
*Familiarity with risk systems and data platforms (e.g. Bloomberg, MSCI RiskMetrics, Aladdin, or similar).
*Professional qualifications such as CFA, FRM, or equivalent.
*Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
