Full job descriptionIf you’re an Assistant Underwriter looking to develop your career within the mid-market sector, this is an excellent opportunity to join a growing insurer as an Assistant Mid-Market Underwriter. Based in the heart of Spinningfields, Manchester, our client has experienced significant growth since launching in the UK in 2015 and continues to expand. Joining an established, high-performing underwriting team, you’ll benefit from ongoing technical development, hands-on experience and genuine long-term career progression within the insurance industry.


Responsibilities:
*Assist with underwriting new mid-market business with premiums of up to £50,000 GWP.
*Assess and select risks across Property, Liability and Commercial Motor classes with support from senior colleagues where required.
*Prepare and negotiate quotations for new business opportunities.
*Build strong relationships with partner brokers, delivering an excellent level of service and responsiveness.
*Support the negotiation of competitive and sustainable underwriting solutions.
*Manage a high volume of submissions while developing confidence in underwriting decision-making.
*Work collaboratively with colleagues to support continued growth and market development.
*Continue to develop your technical underwriting knowledge through structured training, mentoring and practical experience.


What we are looking for:
*Previous experience within commercial insurance, ideally as an Assistant Underwriter or in a similar underwriting support role.
*Strong numerical, analytical and problem-solving skills.
*Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities.
*A proactive approach with the ability to prioritise competing workloads.
*A genuine interest in commercial insurance and risk management.
*The confidence to make informed underwriting decisions with appropriate support.
*Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
*A desire to learn and continually develop your technical underwriting knowledge.
*Knowledge of SQL and/or Python would be advantageous but is not essential.
