An established and prestigious organisation in Cambridge is seeking an experienced Payroll Manager to lead the delivery of an accurate, compliant and efficient payroll service.
This is a standalone specialist role, ideal for a payroll professional who enjoys taking ownership of end-to-end payroll processes, ensuring statutory compliance and providing a high-quality service to employees and stakeholders.
The Opportunity
Reporting to the Head of HR, you will be responsible for managing the full payroll function for a diverse workforce, ensuring all payments are processed accurately, on time and in line with current legislation. You will also oversee pension administration, statutory reporting and payroll compliance activities.
Key Responsibilities
*Process monthly payroll for employees, senior staff and casual workers.
*Maintain payroll records and employee data, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality at all times.
*Administer and maintain payroll systems, ensuring all pay elements are configured correctly.
*Prepare and submit statutory payroll returns, including RTI, FPS and EPS submissions.
*Manage payroll reconciliations including PAYE, National Insurance, pensions, student loans and other deductions.
*Ensure compliance with HMRC requirements and all relevant payroll legislation.
*Administer multiple pension schemes, including auto-enrolment responsibilities and pension communications.
*Calculate and process statutory payments, including SSP, SMP, SPP and Shared Parental Pay.
*Produce payroll reports, journals and management information to support budgeting and decision-making.
*Support annual activities including salary reviews, bonus payments, P11Ds, Gender Pay Gap reporting and year-end payroll processes.
*Act as the subject matter expert for payroll-related queries and provide guidance to colleagues and stakeholders.
About You
We are looking for a highly organised payroll professional with strong technical expertise and a proactive approach.
Essential Requirements
*Proven payroll experience with responsibility for end-to-end payroll administration.
*Strong understanding of UK payroll legislation and statutory requirements.
*Excellent Excel skills and confidence using payroll systems.
*Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
*Ability to manage competing priorities and work accurately to deadlines.
*High levels of discretion, professionalism and integrity when handling confidential information.
Desirable
*CIPP membership or relevant payroll qualifications.
*Experience using Sage Payroll software.
*Experience working within an education, collegiate or not-for-profit environment.
