We are looking for a detail-oriented and professional Payroll Assistant to join our Finance team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong numerical skills and an interest in payroll to contribute to a vital service area.
You will play a key role in ensuring employees and pensioners are paid accurately and on time, while providing trusted payroll advice and support across the organisation. Working closely with the Payroll and Pension Manager, you will support the smooth day-to-day running of payroll operations.
Key Responsibilities
*Process payroll changes including starters, leavers, and amendments accurately
*Calculate salaries, pensions, allowances, statutory payments, overtime, expenses, and other payments in line with HMRC regulations
*Ensure payroll deadlines are met and monthly payrolls are completed within strict timelines
*Maintain accurate payroll records and documentation for audit and compliance purposes
*Respond to payroll queries and provide advice to employees, pensioners, and stakeholders
*Liaise with external agencies such as HMRC and DWP regarding payroll matters
*Support pension processes, including providing data for retirements and leavers
Experience/Qualifications
*Maths and English at Grade 4/C or above
*Experience working within a payroll or finance-related environment
*Proven ability to process high volumes of data accurately while meeting strict deadlines
*Experience interpreting, checking, and reconciling payroll data and reports
*Experience handling confidential and sensitive employee and payroll information
*Strong IT skills, including experience using Microsoft Office and different systems
*Experience responding to queries from employees, pensioners, or customers in a professional manner
