The OpportunityAn exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Engineering Manager to join a well-established manufacturing business. This is a hands-on leadership role, ideal for someone who enjoys balancing people management with practical engineering involvement on the factory floor.
You’ll take ownership of the engineering function, leading a team of maintenance engineers while ensuring plant reliability, maximising equipment performance, and driving continuous improvement across the site.
Key Responsibilities*Lead, motivate and develop a team of maintenance engineers.
*Provide coaching, mentoring and ongoing training to build team capability.
*Remain hands-on, supporting the engineering team with fault finding, maintenance and breakdowns where required.
*Provide engineering cover during holidays and sickness, including working shifts when necessary.
*Ensure all manufacturing equipment operates safely, efficiently and reliably to meet production targets.
*Develop, implement and manage planned preventative maintenance (PPM) schedules and maintenance records.
*Analyse equipment failures and implement long-term corrective actions to improve reliability.
*Manage the purchasing of engineering spare parts and consumables while maintaining effective stock control.
*Coordinate statutory inspections and ensure all engineering compliance requirements are met.
*Manage relationships with external contractors, engineering specialists and service providers.
*Oversee contractor activities on-site, ensuring safe systems of work and Permit to Work procedures are followed.
*Work closely with Production and Planning teams to schedule maintenance activities with minimal operational disruption.
*Identify and deliver continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, reduce downtime and improve manufacturing performance.

You’ll ideally have:
*Previous experience leading an engineering or maintenance team within a manufacturing or FMCG environment.
*A hands-on approach with excellent fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
*Experience managing planned preventative maintenance systems.
*Strong knowledge of health & safety legislation and engineering compliance.
*Experience managing contractors and external service providers.
*Excellent communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively across production, planning and operations.
*A continuous improvement mindset with the drive to improve plant performance and reliability.
