Hours: Monday to Friday, 12:00 PM - 9:00 PM
A leading international logistics organisation is seeking an experienced Import Customs Supervisor to join its growing customs team based in Northampton.
This is an excellent opportunity for an individual with supervisory experience and a strong understanding of customs operations to take the next step in their career within a fast-paced and dynamic environment. The successful candidate will play a key role in overseeing import customs activities, ensuring compliance with customs regulations, and supporting the ongoing development of the team.
The Role
Reporting to the Import Customs Manager, the Import Customs Supervisor will be responsible for ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of the import customs function. The role requires a proactive and organised individual who can effectively manage workloads, support team members, and maintain high standards of service delivery and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
*Supervise the daily activities of the Import Customs team
*Manage import customs operations in the absence of the Import Customs Manager
*Ensure import declarations are completed accurately and within required deadlines
*Allocate workloads and oversee daily customs processes
*Monitor team performance and produce KPI reports
*Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and service quality
*Support team members with operational and customs-related queries
*Ensure effective communication and operational handovers
*Maintain compliance with customs regulations, AEO requirements, and internal procedures
*Liaise with internal departments, customers, and external authorities including HMRC, Border Force, and DEFRA
*Support staff development, training, and onboarding activities
*Assist with performance management processes and absence monitoring
*Promote a positive health and safety culture and ensure compliance with company standards
*Uphold quality standards including BRC and ISO9001 requirements
Candidate Requirements
Essential
*Minimum of 2 years’ supervisory or team leadership experience
*Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
*Strong organisational and time management abilities
*High level of accuracy and attention to detail
*Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
*Customer-focused approach
*Good IT and numerical skills
*Ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced environment
Desirable
*Minimum of 2 years’ experience within a customs-related role
*Knowledge of UK import customs procedures and regulations
*Understanding of third-country customs requirements
*Experience within logistics, freight forwarding, or supply chain operations
*Awareness of global geography and international trade movements
