Job Description:
Full job descriptionOur client, a well known manufacturer based on the outskirts of Leeds is looking to appoint an experienced and hands-on Production Team Leader to join a fast-paced manufacturing business. This is a leadership role for someone who enjoys being on the shop floor, leading by example, driving performance, and ensuring production runs safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards.
You’ll be responsible for managing production processes, motivating your team, solving problems in real time, and ensuring daily targets are consistently achieved.
Roles & Responsibilities
*Lead and supervise a production team to achieve daily, weekly, and monthly production targets.
*Maintain a strong presence on the shop floor, providing support, coaching, and direction throughout each shift.
*Monitor production performance and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, productivity, and quality.
*Ensure all manufacturing processes are followed consistently and standard operating procedures are adhered to.
*Promote and maintain a culture of safety, ensuring compliance with all Health & Safety policies and procedures.
*Manage labour resources effectively, including shift planning, attendance, and workload allocation.
*Conduct team briefings, performance discussions, and regular one-to-one meetings.
*Support the training and development of team members, identifying skills gaps and succession opportunities.
*Work closely with Quality, Engineering, Planning, and Warehouse teams to resolve operational issues quickly.
*Investigate production issues, implement corrective actions, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
*Monitor waste, downtime, and production losses, implementing improvements to reduce inefficiencies.
*Complete production documentation accurately and ensure KPI reporting is maintained.
*Foster a positive, accountable, and high-performance working environment.
Skills and Experience
*Previous experience in a Team Leader, Production Supervisor, or Shift Leader role within manufacturing.
*Strong understanding of production processes and continuous improvement principles.
*Proven experience managing teams in a fast-moving production environment.
*Excellent communication and people management skills.
*Ability to motivate, coach, and develop individuals to achieve high performance.
*Strong organisational and problem-solving abilities.
*Confident using production systems and completing operational reporting.
*Good understanding of Health & Safety and quality standards.
*Flexible approach to work and the ability to adapt to changing production priorities.
Desirable
*Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or Continuous Improvement experience.
*IOSH or other Health & Safety qualification.
*Experience with ERP or manufacturing management systems.
