Full job descriptionAmbition is delighted to be partnered with an exceptional law firm in their search for a Revenue Controller to join their London based finance team. This is an excellent opportunity for an experience Revenue Controller looking for their next step.
What You’ll Be Doing
*Collaborating with the Finance Director to produce monthly WIP valuations on a matter-by-matter basis, including assessing provisions for doubtful debts and ensuring alignment with revenue recognition principles.
*Maintaining regular engagement with partners and fee earners to review unbilled WIP, disbursements, overdue invoices, and client account positions, while actively tracking aged WIP and escalating concerns where appropriate.
*Monitoring client account balances continuously to ensure adherence to SRA Accounts Rules, alongside generating monthly billing forecasts for senior leadership.
*Driving timely billing processes by ensuring invoices are issued promptly, verifying VAT treatment and numerical accuracy, and pursuing outstanding debts through the practice management system.
*Managing key client exposures to reduce lock-up levels, mitigate financial risk, identify recovery trends, and establish performance targets for individual teams.
*Working closely with clients and external stakeholders to secure invoice payments, resolve queries efficiently, and uphold agreed payment terms, while supporting fee earners with file details where legal escalation is necessary.
*Providing support on the financial management of matter files, including handling WIP transfers, time revaluations, client-to-office postings, write-offs, reconciliations, and statement preparation.
*Keeping up to date with UK VAT regulations and Solicitors Accounts Rules, and contributing to month-end finance activities such as time write-offs in partnership with the wider team.
*Assisting with year-end audit requirements as needed.


The right person will have experience in
*Proven ability to build strong working relationships with senior partners and leadership, including confidently challenging processes and transactions in a constructive manner.
*Solid experience working with legal finance systems), alongside a clear understanding of billing procedures, VAT requirements, and Solicitors’ Accounts Rules.
*Minimum of two to three years’ experience operating in a Revenue Controller position within a legal environment.
*Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
*Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to plan, prioritise, and meet deadlines effectively.
