Full job descriptionContentious Probate Solicitor
(NQ–3 PQE)
A respected regional law firm with an excellent reputation for private client and dispute resolution work is seeking a Contentious Probate Solicitor to join its specialist litigation team.
This is an opportunity to build your career within a collaborative environment that handles a broad spectrum of inheritance and trust disputes. You’ll work alongside experienced specialists on high-quality matters while developing your own client relationships and technical expertise.
The Opportunity
Joining an established disputes practice, you will advise clients from the outset of a matter through to resolution, whether by negotiation, mediation or formal court proceedings. You’ll have exposure to a broad range of contentious trust and estate matters and work closely with colleagues across the firm’s Private Client, Property and Litigation teams.
The role offers a strong balance of responsibility and support, making it ideal for a Solicitor looking to continue developing their expertise within this specialist area.
Typical Work Includes
*Inheritance Act claims
*Will validity disputes, including issues of capacity, undue influence and lack of knowledge and approval
*Executor and trustee disputes
*Removal and replacement of personal representatives and trustees
*Trust litigation
*Estate administration disputes
*Proprietary estoppel claims
*Beneficial ownership and estate-related property disputes
*Advising on settlement strategies and alternative dispute resolution
*Preparing matters for trial where settlement is not achievable
You’ll be involved in managing files, drafting pleadings and correspondence, liaising directly with clients, experts and counsel and attending mediations and court hearings where appropriate.
About You
Applications are welcomed from Solicitors with between NQ and 3 years’ PQE who have gained experience in contentious probate, commercial litigation with relevant exposure, or private client litigation.
You will ideally possess:
*Experience handling or assisting on contentious probate matters
*A sound understanding of the Civil Procedure Rules
*Excellent written and verbal communication skills
*Strong drafting and analytical abilities
*Good organisational skills and attention to detail
*The confidence to manage your own workload while recognising when to seek guidance
*A commercial and pragmatic approach to resolving disputes
*A genuine interest in developing a long-term career in contentious trusts and probate
Exposure to trust disputes or estate-related property litigation would be advantageous but is not essential.
The Firm
This is a long-established practice with an excellent reputation for delivering high-quality legal advice to private individuals, families and businesses. The firm places significant emphasis on teamwork, technical excellence and long-term client relationships, offering lawyers the opportunity to develop their careers in a supportive and forward-thinking environment.
Partners are approachable and actively involved in mentoring junior lawyers, while the quality of work provides excellent ongoing development and progression opportunities.
What’s on Offer?
*Competitive salary commensurate with experience
*Bonus scheme
*Hybrid working arrangements
*Private medical insurance
*Pension contribution
*Generous annual leave with additional entitlement based on length of service
*Ongoing professional development and specialist training
*Genuine career progression within a growing team
*High-quality work with an established client base
*Friendly, collaborative culture with an emphasis on work-life balance
If you’re looking to develop your career in contentious probate within a firm that combines high-quality work with a supportive culture, I’d be delighted to discuss this opportunity in complete confidence.
