Are you passionate about supporting autistic children and young people to thrive?New Chapter Tuition is recruiting Experienced SEN Tutors to deliver personalised 1:1 tuition for learners aged 5–25 across Southend-on-Sea and surrounding areas.
This rewarding opportunity is ideal for experienced tutors, qualified teachers, teaching assistants, learning mentors, support workers, youth workers, and other education professionals who have experience supporting autistic learners, including those who are non-verbal or minimally verbal.

About the RoleWorking on a 1:1 basis, you will support autistic children and young people who require an individualised approach to learning. Many learners access tuition through EOTAS packages, home education, or EHCP-funded support, requiring tutors who can adapt learning and communication to meet each learner’s unique strengths and needs.
You’ll build positive relationships, deliver engaging sessions, and help learners develop confidence, communication skills, independence, and meaningful educational progress.
Learners You Will Support*Autistic children and young people
*Non-verbal or minimally verbal learners
*Learners with EHCPs
*Learners accessing EOTAS or Alternative Provision
Key Responsibilities*Deliver personalised 1:1 tuition tailored to each learner
*Adapt teaching and communication to meet individual needs
*Support learners’ confidence, engagement and independence
*Build positive, trusting relationships with learners and families
*Use visual, sensory and communication-based strategies where appropriate
*Deliver academic learning at an appropriate level
*Complete session reports and progress updates
*Work collaboratively with parents, carers and professionals
What We’re Looking For*Minimum 1 year of experience supporting autistic children or young people
*Experience supporting non-verbal or minimally verbal learners
*Background in tutoring, education, mentoring, youth work, support work, care or a similar role
*Experience using communication approaches such as PECS, Makaton, AAC, visual supports, sensory strategies or similar
*Strong communication and relationship-building skills
*A patient, flexible and nurturing approach
*Understanding of neurodiversity-affirming practice
*Enhanced Child DBS (Update Service preferred) or willingness to obtain one
*Right to work in the UK
