About the Role
We are seeking an enthusiastic and knowledgeable Lecturer in Sport and Uniformed Protective Services to join our Sport and UPS department at Bournemouth & Poole College.
This is an important opportunity to inspire and support learners from Level 1 to Level 3, delivering high quality teaching across sport, fitness, coaching and Uniformed Protective Services programmes. The role will include a key focus on Uniformed Protective Services, while also contributing to the wider Sport curriculum area.
You will play a key role in shaping learners’ futures by delivering engaging and inclusive lessons that develop knowledge, practical skills, confidence and professional behaviours. Learners in this area develop skills linked to sport science, coaching, fitness, leadership, teamwork, physical preparation, citizenship, discipline and preparation for careers in the protective services.
This is an important time to join the department. Sport and UPS learners will benefit from new facilities including a sports hall, fitness suite and climbing wall. These spaces will support practical delivery across sport, fitness, coaching, leadership, teamwork and protective services, helping to strengthen the learner experience.
This role could suit an experienced lecturer, teacher, PE teacher, sport lecturer, coach, fitness professional, outdoor education practitioner, public services professional, or someone with strong sector experience who is ready to move into education.
What You’ll Be Doing
*Planning and delivering engaging, high-quality teaching, learning and assessment across a variety of delivery methods
*Supporting learners academically and pastorally, including acting as a Personal Tutor where required
*Preparing learning materials, marking and providing constructive feedback to support learner progress
*Designing and contributing to curriculum development and continuous improvement
*Ensuring compliance with awarding body and regulatory standards
*Maintaining accurate records of attendance, progress, assessment and achievement
*Supporting work placements and developing links with employers and external partners
*Contributing to course leadership activities, where applicable, including assessment planning and quality assurance
*Participating in college events such as open evenings, employer engagement and school liaison
*Engaging in continuous professional development, appraisals and teaching observations
*Promoting a safe, inclusive and positive learning environment, in line with safeguarding and equality commitments
What We’re Looking For
Essential:
*A relevant degree or professional qualification in Sport, Physical Education, Sport and Exercise Science, Sports Coaching, Uniformed Protective Services or a closely related subject area.
*Industry experience in Sport, Physical Education, Sport and Exercise Science, Sports Coaching, or Uniformed Protective Services.
*GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths at Grade 4/C or above
*A teaching qualification (Level 5 or above), or willingness to work towards one
*Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage diverse learners
*Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to meet deadlines in a busy environment
*A collaborative, proactive approach with a commitment to continuous improvement
*Ability to support and manage learners, including young people and/or vulnerable adults
Desirable:
*Previous teaching experience or experience supporting apprentices
*Assessor and/or Internal Verifier (IV) qualification
*Understanding of quality assurance processes and curriculum development
*Knowledge of safeguarding, equality, diversity and inclusion
*Experience adapting to new qualifications within the Sport and UPS sector
