Manchester City Council are looking for a proactive and community-oriented Assistant Market Manager to join our team at Gorton Retail Market. This role is crucial for maintaining a safe, vibrant, and well-managed market environment, supporting local traders and enhancing the community’s shopping experience.
Day-to-day of the role:
*Work closely with the Market Manager to oversee the daily operations of Gorton Market.
*Maintain strong working relationships with traders, providing guidance, resolving issues, and ensuring a supportive environment.
*Ensure compliance with health and safety standards, identifying risks and implementing preventive measures.
*Manage financial tasks including rent collection and monitoring accounts.
*Respond promptly to operational issues to maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming space.
*Support market events, promotions, and operational improvements to enhance the market’s appeal and efficiency.
*Act as a visible and approachable presence on-site, fostering an inclusive environment where businesses can thrive.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
*Excellent communication and organisational skills.
*Experience in markets, retail, or other customer-facing environments.
*Ability to work independently, make sound decisions, and adapt to changing priorities.
*Commitment to delivering high standards of service.
*Availability to work weekends and evenings, supporting the market during peak trading periods.
*Ability to collaborate effectively with team members and stakeholders to achieve joint outcomes.
*Knowledge of health and safety requirements and legislation relevant to public spaces.
