Full job descriptionOur client is an established West London-based construction and main contracting company delivering high-quality residential, mixed-use and commercial schemes across the capital and beyond. Their portfolio includes landmark projects. As they continue to grow their in-house capabilities, they are now investing in their structural steel operations and are looking for an experienced leader to take ownership of their fabrication workshop and ensure timely production and on-site project delivery.
The Role
You will lead and oversee workshop fabrication operations within a busy structural steel environment. Reporting into senior project leadership, you will run day-to-day production, supervise the workshop team - 8-10 people, safeguard quality and safety standards, and ensure every job leaves the shop on time and to specification.
Key Responsibilities*Manage day-to-day operations within the steel fabrication workshop.
*Supervise fabrication teams including welders, fabricators and workshop operatives.
*Coordinate production schedules to ensure projects are delivered on time.
*Review and interpret fabrication drawings, specifications and project requirements.
*Ensure all fabrication work meets required quality and industry standards.
*Monitor workshop productivity, labour allocation and material usage, procure materials and negotiate with suppliers.
*Maintain RAM/compliance with health & safety regulations and company procedures. Overseeing the maintenance and safe operation of fabrication equipment and machinery.
*Liaise with project managers, engineers, procurement teams and site personnel.
*Identify and proactively resolve fabrication or production issues.
*Liaise with detailers/designers and deliver projects to site.
*Oversee the maintenance and safe operation of fabrication equipment and machinery.
*Support staff training, performance management and development.
The Candidate*Proven experience within the structural steel or steel fabrication industry.
*Gravitas and previous experience in a management role.
*Strong understanding of fabrication processes, welding and structural steelwork.
*Ability to read and interpret technical and engineering drawings.
*Excellent leadership, communication and organisational skills.
*Commercially aware.
*Strong knowledge of health & safety practices within a workshop environment.
*Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities effectively
Desirable Qualifications
*Degree / NVQ / HNC / HND in Fabrication, Welding, Engineering or a related discipline.
*SSSTS or SMSTS qualification.
*Valid CSCS card.
