English Functional Skills Tutor – Apprenticeships
Location: York
Salary: £25+ per hour
Contract: Full-Time and Part-Time Opportunities Available
Start Date: September 2026
Are you passionate about helping learners develop essential English skills and achieve their apprenticeship goals? We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated English Functional Skills Tutor to join a growing apprenticeship team in York.
The Role
As an English Functional Skills Tutor, you will deliver engaging and effective English Functional Skills teaching to apprentices from a range of vocational sectors. You will support learners to build confidence, develop their skills, and achieve their qualifications, enabling them to progress successfully in their careers.
Key Responsibilities
*Deliver high-quality English Functional Skills teaching to apprenticeship learners.
*Plan and deliver engaging lessons tailored to individual learner needs.
*Conduct initial and diagnostic assessments and develop individual learning plans.
*Track learner progress and provide timely feedback and support.
*Prepare learners for Functional Skills examinations and assessments.
About You
We are looking for someone who:
*Holds a teaching qualification (PGCE, Cert Ed, DTLLS, AET, CET or equivalent).
*Has experience delivering English Functional Skills qualifications.
*Possesses strong knowledge of the Functional Skills curriculum and assessment requirements.
*Is passionate about supporting adult learners and apprentices to succeed.
*Has excellent communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills.
*Holds GCSE English at Grade C/4 or above (or equivalent).
All candidates who register with Reed Further Education will have 2 years’ referencing taken up and will be required to have a DBS check completed. All offers are conditional upon satisfactory background checks.
