You will Lead the engineering function for an established UK electronics manufacturer delivering innovative products to globally recognised industrial customers. This is an opportunity to shape engineering strategy, lead product development and build a high-performing engineering team within a growing business.
The Role
*You will take ownership of the engineering function, product development standards, and technical compliance strategy.
*As the senior technical authority within the business, you will lead engineering activities from concept through to production, ensuring products meet the highest standards of quality, performance, safety and regulatory compliance.
*You’ll oversee electronics design, PCB development, embedded software and the delivery advanced products, leading new engineering programmes while driving continuous improvement across the engineering function.
*Working closely with senior leadership, production, quality, and technical operations, you will help drive continuous improvement and support the evolution of the business into a more mature, process-driven engineering organisation.
Key Responsibilities
Engineering Leadership
*Lead and develop the engineering and technical teams.
*Provide technical leadership across all product development activities.
*Establish engineering best practices, processes, and technical standards.
*Support engineers with complex technical challenges and professional development.
*Drive continuous improvement across engineering capability.
Product Development
*Lead technical input into new product development projects.
*Oversee the full product lifecycle from concept through to manufacture.
*Ensure designs meet customer requirements, regulatory standards, and commercial objectives.
*Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, and DFMEA activities.
*Balance quality, cost, and delivery throughout engineering projects.
Compliance & Regulatory
*Own the company’s technical compliance strategy.
*Interpret and implement relevant industry standards and regulations.
*Manage relationships with certification bodies and external testing partners.
*Lead EMC, product safety, and third-party approval activities.
*Embed compliance into the product development process from the outset.
Customer & Stakeholder Engagement
*Act as the senior technical representative for key customers and partners.
*Attend customer meetings to provide technical expertise and guidance.
*Translate customer requirements into practical engineering solutions.
*Build strong relationships with global organisations operating within relevant industry sectors
Strategic Leadership
*Contribute to business growth as part of the senior leadership team.
*Collaborate across engineering, production, quality, and operations.
*Improve engineering processes, documentation, and governance.
*Support long-term technical strategy and organisational development.
About You
We’re looking for an experienced engineering leader with a strong background in electronics product development and technical compliance.
You’ll have:
*Significant experience in a senior engineering leadership role.
*Strong knowledge of electronics hardware design, PCB development and embedded systems.
*Experience with PCB design and embedded software systems.
*A solid understanding of EMC, product certification, regulatory compliance, and third-party approvals.
*Experience working within structured engineering or manufacturing environments.
*Excellent communication skills with the confidence to engage with customers and senior stakeholders.
*A degree in Engineering or an equivalent technical qualification.
