Full job descriptionYour new company
A leading organisation is seeking an experienced Interim Inventory Manager to join its Procurement and Supply Chain team in Manchester. This is a high-impact leadership assignment offering a competitive day rate, with responsibility for inventory strategy, stock optimisation and operational performance across a complex, multi-site national operation.

Working closely with stakeholders across procurement, supply chain, operations, construction, finance and IT, you will play a key role in balancing stock availability, cost control and service performance. The organisation operates within a dynamic environment where inventory accuracy, supply chain responsiveness and data-driven decision-making are critical to success.

Your new role
As the Interim Inventory Manager, you will take ownership of the organisation’s end-to-end inventory function, leading demand forecasting, order planning and stock optimisation across multiple locations. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to establish realistic demand forecasts, manage supply requirements and maintain appropriate stock levels to support operational needs while controlling costs.

You will be responsible for reviewing, improving and maintaining inventory management processes, ERP systems and KPI reporting frameworks that provide accurate visibility across raw materials, finished goods and maintenance stock. A key part of the assignment will involve analysing inventory performance, optimising re-order points and improving working capital efficiency while maintaining service levels.

In addition, you will oversee inventory governance and compliance activity, coordinating audits, implementing stock controls and leading the annual stock take process. You will also manage supplier inventory arrangements, monitor stock performance across sites and subcontractors, and provide strategic insight to senior management through reporting and recommendations.

Alongside operational ownership, you will lead and support the inventory team, driving accountability, improving processes and delivering measurable improvements across the national operation.

What you’ll need to succeed
To be successful in this interim role, you will have significant inventory management experience gained within a global organisation or complex multi-site environment. Previous responsibility for national or multi-site inventory operations is essential, along with strong knowledge of supply chain planning, stock control and inventory optimisation.

You will possess extensive experience using ERP systems and inventory management platforms, for example SAP, D365. Strong analytical skills are required, with the ability to interpret complex inventory data, identify trends and make informed operational decisions regarding replenishment strategies and stock levels.

You will be a credible leader with experience influencing stakeholders and delivering results in fast-paced environments. Strong communication skills are essential, enabling you to present recommendations and drive alignment across multiple business functions. A proactive approach to problem-solving, attention to detail, resilience and adaptability will be key to success.

The role requires regular travel across multiple locations.

What you’ll get in return
In return, you will secure a challenging and rewarding interim assignment offering a competitive day rate and the opportunity to lead a critical national inventory function. You will work at senior level across procurement, supply chain and operations, influencing key business decisions and driving improvements in inventory control, cost management and service delivery.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced interim professional to make an immediate impact, shape inventory strategy, improve operational performance and deliver lasting value across a complex, multi-site organisation.
The role will be ongoing and offers a competitive rate, hybrid working and are keen to have the successful candidate start immediately.
