Job Description:
Full job descriptionAn exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and commercially sharp Estate Manager to help manage all aspects of a notable private and commercial estate in Wiltshire. The estate is roughly 1,100 Acres of mixed usage, including: small-scale farming and agriculture, forestry, a private family home and gardens, recreational lakes (including cabins for private and guest use). The Principal commercial activities include a shoot and several early-phase lifestyle businesses. The estate is staffed by 21 full-time employees/contractors.
The private aspect is substantial, with a main house, private gardens, kitchen gardens, recreational lakes, cabins, saunas and BBQs. The Principal and family are in residence at weekends and during holidays. Weekend working is highly likely, especially during the busy times. The family home is staffed by 5 x cleaners/ housekeepers, a house manager and a butler. Staffing for the family home and shoots is bolstered by a good roster of contract butlers, chefs, cleaners, drivers, etc
Candidate profile
We are looking to recruit an experienced Estate Manager who has proven commercial acumen. They should be able to report regularly on the performance of the commercial elements of the estate rather than run it as an expense. They would report to the principal via his Chief of Staff. Responsibilities
*Maintaining effective communications with the Principal and his Chief of Staff.
*Management of the built environment; preventative maintenance, reactive maintenance, facilities, utilities and infrastructure, managing all contracts.
*HR and Team Management.
*Line Manager to 21 Estate employees, oversight of all employees in the teams operating on the Estate.
*Daily direction to respective team heads.
*Maintaining compliance with all relevant legislation.
*Health and Safety.
*Training.
*Ensuring all activities and infrastructure are insured.
*Record keeping.
*Oversight of all Estate enterprises, including hospitality and events, the shoot (36x 300 - 400 bird days per season), simulated shoots, and any other new initiatives or revenue streams
*Management of the green side of the Estate (farming, forestry, agriculture, environmental) in conjunction with advice from external SME’s.
*Project management of new Estate projects (e.g. house modifications, property builds and renovation, remote infrastructure install).
*Estate administration, including financial accounts; monthly reporting, budgeting, forecasting and cash flow management (working with the Principal’s Finance team).
*Cost control and constant monitoring of possible cost-saving opportunities
