THE OPPORTUNITYAn exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Principal Hydrologist to join a growing and ambitious environmental consultancy in Sheffield.
This is a senior leadership role, offering the opportunity to lead and develop a talented hydrology team while delivering a broad portfolio of flood risk, drainage and water management projects across the UK. THE ROLEAs Principal Hydrologist, you will provide both technical and managerial leadership across the hydrology team, ensuring the successful delivery of projects while maintaining the highest technical standards.
Key responsibilities include:
*Leading the delivery of Flood Risk Assessments (FRAs), drainage strategies, hydrological assessments and technical reports.
*Managing multiple complex projects from initial proposal through to successful completion.
*Providing technical leadership and quality assurance across all hydrology and flood risk projects.
*Leading, mentoring and developing Hydrologists, Consultants and Senior Consultants within the team.
*Managing team workload, resources and project priorities.
*Building and maintaining strong relationships with clients, local authorities, the Environment Agency and other stakeholders.
*Preparing fee proposals, project programmes and supporting business development activities.
*Identifying new business opportunities and contributing to company growth.
*Overseeing SuDS strategies, hydraulic modelling and flood mitigation solutions.
*Reviewing and approving technical reports to ensure compliance with industry standards and current legislation.
*Conducting site visits where required and ensuring all health & safety procedures and RAMS are adhered to.
*Supporting the strategic development of the hydrology division.
ABOUT YOUTo be successful in this role, you will have:
*A degree (BSc or MSc) in Hydrology, Environmental Science, Geography or a related discipline.
*Significant consultancy experience within hydrology, flood risk and drainage.
*Chartered status (CIWEM or equivalent) or be working towards achieving it.
*Extensive experience producing Flood Risk Assessments, drainage strategies and hydrological reports.
*Proven experience managing projects, clients and technical teams.
*Strong commercial awareness with experience preparing fee proposals and managing project budgets.
*Excellent leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills.
*A proactive approach with the ability to balance technical delivery, people management and business development.
