The Role:
The Fleet Maintenance Controller is responsible for developing and implementing strategic maintenance programs that ensure optimal fleet performance, cost efficiency, and regulatory compliance across the organisation. This role plays a pivotal part in overseeing the maintenance and operational integrity of a diverse fleet, mitigating downtime, and driving process improvements that enhance safety, reliability, and sustainability. Working closely with senior leadership, suppliers, and operational teams, the Fleet Maintenance Controller will lead initiatives that balance cost control with operational excellence, ensuring that maintenance programs align with long-term business objectives.
What You’ll Deliver:
* Maintenance Scheduling: Oversee a structured maintenance plan for all company
* vehicles, including long-term hires and company cars, ensuring seamless operational readiness.
* Repair Coordination: Manage vehicle repairs, working with external providers to maintain high service quality and cost efficiency.
* Breakdown & Downtime Management: Lead on breakdown response strategies, tracking vehicle-off-road (VOR) times and implementing measures to minimise delays.
* Supplier & SLA Management: Establish, negotiate, and oversee supplier service level
* agreements (SLAs) to ensure value-driven partnerships.
* Fleet Accreditation & Compliance: Ensure the organisation meets all transport
* accreditation and compliance requirements, including safety inspections and regulatory updates.
* Tyre & Cost Control Management: Oversee procurement and cost management of tyres and maintenance components, identifying areas of concern and implementing preventative strategies.
* Defect Reporting & Risk Management: Implement and refine safety-critical defect monitoring, reducing reoccurrence through preventative maintenance measures.
* Governance: Develop and execute a proactive fleet maintenance strategy that minimises vehicle downtime and maximises efficiency.
About You:
* Exceptional leadership and stakeholder engagement skills.
* Strong negotiation skills with a commercial understanding of fleet management.
* Advanced project management skills, ensuring seamless fleet operations.
* Excellent IT proficiency, including Microsoft Office and fleet management software.
* Ability to make data-driven decisions to enhance efficiency and cost-effectiveness
* High attention to detail with strong problem-solving capabilities.
* Strong ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
* Key Experience
* Proven track record in managing large-scale fleet maintenance operations.
* Experience in cost control, budgeting, and procurement within a fleet function.
* Demonstrated success in implementing fleet compliance and accreditation programs.
* Previous experience leading a fleet maintenance team and mentoring junior staff.
* Experience in optimising fleet performance through digital transformation and sustainability initiatives.
