About the role:
EdStaff are seeking an organised and reliable Science Technician to join a fast-paced science department at a secondary school in the Skelmersdale area from September.
As a Science Technician, you will play a vital role in supporting the department by preparing materials, maintaining equipment, and ensuring practical lessons run smoothly and safely. You will work closely with teaching staff to support learning across the science curriculum.
The role is full-time and due to continue until December 2026.
Key responsibilities:
*Prepare, set up and clear away equipment, materials and chemicals for practical science lessons across Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
*Support teaching staff in delivering engaging and safe practical experiments in line with the curriculum.
*Ensure all laboratory equipment is maintained, cleaned, stored correctly and available for use when required.
*Conduct routine checks, maintenance and stock control of laboratory resources and equipment.
*Order and monitor science consumables and supplies, ensuring departments remain well stocked.
*Adhere to health and safety regulations, including COSHH requirements and risk assessment procedures.
*Prepare chemical solutions and materials in accordance with departmental guidance and safety standards.
*Assist with the organisation and maintenance of science laboratories, prep rooms and storage areas.
*Support staff and students during practical activities where appropriate.
*Keep accurate records of inventory, equipment maintenance and health and safety checks.
Person specification:
*Previous experience working as a Science Technician, Laboratory Technician or in a similar scientific support role
*Good organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively
*Strong understanding of laboratory procedures, equipment and health and safety regulations
*Reliable and punctual with a professional attitude
*Strong communication and interpersonal skills
*Able to efficiently build positive relationships with colleagues
Essential requirements:
*Right to work in the UK
*GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Mathematics at Grade C/4 or above
*A science qualification would be advantageous
*Enhanced DBS on the update service or willing to obtain one
*References to cover the last 2-year period
