Full job descriptionEmployment Solicitor | Employer-Side Employment Law | NQ–4 PQE
York | Hybrid Working | £50,000–£70,000 DOE + Bonus

Why spend your early career being a generalist if Employment Law is what you actually enjoy?

Some firms treat Employment as a bolt-on service. Others build an entire business around it.

QED Legal’s client sits firmly in the second category.

We’re working with a specialist Employment Law practice that has built an outstanding reputation advising businesses, senior executives and HR professionals. Continued growth, coupled with an increasing volume of high-quality instructions, means they’re looking to appoint an Employment Solicitor at NQ–4 years PQE to join their Yorkshire team.

This is almost exclusively employer-side employment law, advising a broad range of commercial clients on the issues they face every day. From day-to-day HR advice through to complex Tribunal litigation, restructures, disciplinary and grievance matters, restrictive covenants and senior executive exits, you’ll enjoy genuine variety while developing alongside recognised Employment specialists.

If you’re looking to build a long-term career in Employment Law rather than split your time across multiple disciplines, it’s an opportunity worth exploring.

You’ll be involved in:*Advising employer clients on the full range of contentious and non-contentious Employment Law matters.
*Managing Employment Tribunal claims from initial instruction through to conclusion.
*Advising on disciplinary, grievance, discrimination, whistleblowing and unfair dismissal matters.
*Drafting and reviewing employment contracts, policies, settlement agreements and workplace documentation.
*Supporting businesses through restructures, redundancies and TUPE issues.
*Advising senior executives on exit negotiations and settlement agreements.
*Building trusted relationships with clients while delivering commercially focused, pragmatic advice.
To be considered, you’ll ideally have:*Qualified Solicitor (NQ–4 years PQE).
*Experience in Employment Law, ideally advising employer clients, although strong candidates from claimant or mixed practices will also be considered.
*Excellent drafting and communication skills.
*Sound commercial awareness and a pragmatic approach to client advice.
*The confidence to manage your own matters with appropriate supervision.
*An interest in networking, relationship building and developing your professional profile over time.
This opportunity would suit an Employment Solicitor, Employment Lawyer or Employment Associate looking to join a specialist team where Employment Law isn’t simply one department among many, but the firm’s core focus.

You’ll benefit from direct access to experienced partners, structured technical development, genuine mentoring and the freedom to develop your own specialist interests as your career progresses. The culture is collaborative rather than hierarchical, with approachable leadership, realistic expectations and a clear pathway for progression.

Alongside a competitive salary, the firm offers an achievable bonus scheme, hybrid working, flexible start and finish times, generous annual leave, enhanced wellbeing initiatives and a genuinely supportive working environment built around long-term career development rather than short-term billing targets.

Salary: £50,000–£70,000 DOE plus bonus and comprehensive benefits.
