The Service
We are recruiting experienced Children’s Support Workers for a supported living service in Barnsley. The home consists of four self-contained flats supporting up to four young people, with two young people currently residing in the service.
This role requires staff who are confident working within children’s residential settings and are capable of lone working when required. You will play a key role in supporting young people with their daily living skills, emotional wellbeing, independence, and personal development within a safe and nurturing environment.
The Role
Working under the guidance of the Registered Manager and senior staff team, you will provide high-quality support to children and young people, helping them develop independence, build confidence, and achieve positive outcomes.
You will work alongside a small staff team, providing consistent support and maintaining a stable and positive environment for the young people in your care.
You Will:
*Build positive, professional relationships with children and young people
*Provide emotional support and guidance
*Support young people to develop independent living skills
*Assist with cooking, meal preparation, and household tasks
*Support with cleaning and maintaining a safe, welcoming home environment
*Promote positive routines and healthy lifestyles
*Encourage engagement in education, training, and community activities
*Support young people through challenging situations using positive behaviour management approaches
*Work flexibly to provide additional cover as required
Requirements
Essential
*Experience working within a children’s residential care setting
*Experience supporting vulnerable children and young people
*Ability to work independently and confidently in a lone-working environment
*Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
*Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
Desirable
*NVQ Level 3 in Children and Young People’s Workforce, Residential Childcare, or equivalent
*Training in de-escalation, behaviour management, or MAPA/PMVA
*Experience supporting young people with emotional and behavioural needs
Key Responsibilities
*Provide a safe, nurturing, and supportive environment for children and young people
*Support emotional wellbeing and promote positive outcomes
*Encourage choice, independence, and participation in daily activities
*Assist with cooking, budgeting, shopping, and household management
*Maintain high standards within the home, including basic domestic duties
*Record and maintain accurate daily notes and reports using electronic systems
*Support young people to attend appointments and engage with education where appropriate
*Work in partnership with colleagues and external professionals
*Participate in training, supervision, and ongoing professional development
*Adhere to safeguarding policies and procedures at all times
