Job Description:
Full job descriptionNMS Recruit are seeking an experienced Electrical Reliability SME to join an innovative technology company specialising in solutions for the electricity industry. This is an exciting opportunity for a technically skilled professional to provide expert guidance on electrical reliability, supporting the development of innovative products and solutions that improve the resilience and performance of electrical networks.
You will provide deep domain and system-level expertise in electrical reliability, ensuring product strategy, system architecture and solution design are grounded in real-world operational challenges. Working closely with Product Management and Engineering teams, you’ll translate complex customer and network requirements into clear technical direction, helping shape product discovery, solution design and cross-functional delivery without direct responsibility for engineering execution or backlog ownership.
Responsibilities
• Translate complex customer and network challenges into structured domain problem definitions and outcome hypotheses in partnership with Product Managers.
• Contribute system-level design thinking across SaaS, PaaS, analytics, and operational workflows to ensure coherent, end-to-end solutions.
• Support product discovery by validating feasibility, regulatory, operational, and safety constraints early.
• Embed into strategic initiatives and complex customer engagements to shape integrated, multi-disciplinary solution outcomes.
• Identify domain trends, regulatory shifts, and systemic risks that should influence product and portfolio direction.
• Act as a credible technical authority with customers, partners, and internal engineering teams.
Key Measures of Success
• Clear articulation of domain problem frameworks informing product roadmaps.
• Reduced late-stage rework due to unaddressed operational or regulatory constraints.
• Improved cross-product coherence within the assigned domain.
• Positive customer feedback on technical credibility and solution integrity.
• Evidence that domain insight shapes discovery and architectural decisions.
Essential Experience
Technical knowledge
• Deep expertise in one assigned grid-edge domain (Voltage Management, Grid Capacity, Reliability, or Asset Investment).
• Strong understanding of distribution network operations, constraints, and regulatory context.
• Ability to reason across hardware, software, analytics, and operational system layers.
Professional Experience
• Proven experience in power systems, distribution network operations, asset management, or equivalent infrastructure environments.
• Substantial experience working directly with network operators or within regulated utility environments.
• Demonstrable experience shaping complex, multi-disciplinary technical solutions or system architectures.
• Experience influencing product, technical, or solution direction through structured domain analysis.
Qualifications
• Degree or equivalent professional experience in electrical engineering, power systems, or related discipline.
Core skills
• Strong systems thinking and structured problem framing.
• Ability to translate operational complexity into clear, actionable solution intent.
• Credibility with both engineers and senior customer stakeholders.
• Clear and concise communication of complex technical concepts.
Desirable
• Experience working across multiple regulatory environments.
• Experience supporting strategic bids or large-scale programmes.
• Exposure to analytics-led decision tools or AI-supported grid applications.
• Experience contributing to product discovery in hardware-software environments.
Benefits
*Salary £40,000 - £70,000 DOE
*Hybrid working
*Holidays: 25 days of annual leave, plus bank holidays, with an extra day for every three years completed (up to a maximum of 30 days). Ability to buy an additional 5 days.
*Pension contributions of 8% from the employer (or cash equivalent).
*Comprehensive benefits, including Group Life Insurance, Income Protection, and Critical Illness cover (or cash equivalents).
*Private Medical Insurance (single cover or cash equivalent).
