Speech & Language Therapist (Band 6 & Band 7)
Specialist Further Education Settings | Kingston, Sutton & Hillingdon | September Start
Reed Further Education is recruiting on behalf of a leading specialist college for three Speech & Language Therapist opportunities across London and Surrey. We are interested in speaking with candidates seeking either permanent or locum positions, with start dates available from September 2026.
These roles offer the opportunity to make a meaningful difference to the lives of young people and adults with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), supporting communication, independence and preparation for adulthood.
The Role
As a Speech & Language Therapist, you will work within a multidisciplinary team supporting learners with a range of needs, including:
*Autism
*Moderate, severe and profound learning disabilities
*Multiple learning disabilities
*Complex communication needs
*Eating, drinking and swallowing difficulties
You will deliver person-centred Speech & Language Therapy interventions at both a universal and individual level, helping students develop communication skills, independence and opportunities for successful transition into adulthood.
Key Responsibilities
*Assess communication, learning environment and eating/drinking needs using formal and informal assessment methods.
*Manage an independent clinical caseload.
*Support and develop the use of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC).
*Provide training, coaching and guidance to teaching and support staff.
*Contribute to support plans and curriculum accessibility.
*Work collaboratively with families, education teams and external agencies to ensure smooth transitions and positive outcomes.
*Promote inclusive, neurodiversity-affirming and person-centred practice at all times.
Requirements
Applicants should have:
*Degree in Speech & Language Therapy (or equivalent)
*HCPC Registration
*Eligibility for membership of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT)
*Experience working with young people and/or adults with learning disabilities and Autism
*Experience supporting complex communication needs, including AAC
All candidates who register with Reed Further Education will have 2 years’ referencing taken up and will be required to have a DBS check completed. All offers are conditional upon satisfactory background checks.
