Full job descriptionASDAN Learning Support Mentor / Teaching AssistantLocation: Wolverhampton Hours: Full Time, Monday to Friday Pay: Competitive, dependent on experience Start Date: September 2026
Are you an experienced Teaching Assistant, Learning Mentor, Support Worker, Care Worker, Youth Worker or SEN Practitioner looking for a rewarding role where you can make a genuine difference to a young person’s future?Hays Education are seeking a dedicated and patient individual to support a young person with additional needs on a 2:1 support programme, helping them access education and develop essential life skills through a personalised curriculum.This is a unique opportunity to work within a highly structured educational setting, supporting learning that is tailored to the individual’s needs, interests and long-term aspirations.The RoleYou will work closely with another experienced Teaching Assistant as part of a small support team to help a young person access learning and work towards ASDAN qualifications.This role requires someone who can build a positive, professional relationship whilst maintaining clear boundaries and high expectations. The young person responds well to consistency, patience and staff who can motivate and engage them in learning.Key responsibilities include:
*Supporting a personalised educational programme
*Encouraging engagement with learning activities and ASDAN coursework
*Promoting independence, confidence and life skills development
*Working collaboratively with the wider support team
*Monitoring progress and contributing to learning targets
*Supporting emotional regulation and wellbeing
*Identifying when the young person may need a short movement break or change of activity
*Using positive strategies to re-engage learning, such as physical activities, outdoor learning opportunities, ball games or other appropriate outlets
*Building a trusting and supportive relationship that encourages progress and achievement
About the Young PersonThe young person is working towards ASDAN accreditation and benefits from a personalised approach to education. They are looking for a strong, positive role model who can provide consistency, encouragement and support throughout the school day.Success in this role will come from understanding that learning can look different for every child. You’ll recognise when to challenge, when to encourage and when a short break may be needed to help the young person regulate and refocus. Whether that’s kicking a football around, engaging in a practical activity or another agreed outlet, you’ll understand how these moments can help create positive learning outcomes.We Are Looking For Someone Who:
*Has experience supporting children or young people with SEN, SEMH, autism or additional needs
*Can work effectively alongside another Teaching Assistant as part of a 2:1 support team
*Is a strong role model with excellent relationship-building skills
*Is calm, patient, resilient and adaptable
*Understands the importance of emotional regulation and therapeutic approaches
*Can recognise triggers and respond appropriately to the young person’s needs
*Has experience as a Teaching Assistant, Learning Mentor, Youth Worker, Support Worker, Sports Coach, Residential Worker or similar
*Is passionate about helping young people achieve positive outcomes
