Full job descriptionA highly regarded regional law firm is seeking an experienced Family Solicitor to take on a strategic leadership role as Head of Family Law. This is an exceptional opportunity for an ambitious legal professional looking to lead an established department, influence its future direction and play a key role in the wider growth of the business.
The successful candidate will combine strong technical family law expertise with proven leadership skills, overseeing a thriving private family practice whilst driving business development, team performance and departmental growth.
The Role
This position offers the opportunity to manage a varied portfolio of privately funded family law matters while leading a dedicated team of legal professionals. Working closely with senior management, the Head of Family Law will be responsible for developing the department’s long-term strategy, enhancing its market presence and ensuring the highest standards of client service are maintained.
The role would suit an experienced Family Solicitor who enjoys mentoring others, building client relationships and contributing to the commercial success of a growing law firm.
Responsibilities
*Managing a comprehensive caseload of private family law matters, including divorce, financial settlements, private children matters and cohabitation disputes
*Leading, mentoring and developing members of the Family Law team
*Driving departmental growth through business development and networking activities
*Building strong relationships with clients, referrers and professional contacts
*Working alongside marketing professionals to increase the firm’s profile within the local market
*Monitoring financial performance, billing targets and departmental profitability
*Conducting supervision, performance reviews and file audits
*Managing complaints and ensuring exceptional client care standards
*Supporting recruitment, retention and development of legal talent
*Ensuring compliance with SRA regulations and internal quality procedures
*Contributing to the firm’s wider strategic objectives and growth plans
Candidate Requirements
Applications are welcomed from experienced Family Solicitors who can demonstrate:
*Qualified Solicitor status with ideally 6+ years’ PQE in Family Law
*Strong expertise in privately funded family matters
*Previous leadership, supervisory or team management experience
*A proven track record of business development and client relationship management
*Commercial awareness and an understanding of departmental financial performance
*Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
*A proactive and strategic approach to department growth
*Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities
*Confidence representing the firm at networking events and within the wider community
