Full job descriptionSEN Teaching Assistant - Southampton
Prospero Teaching is recruiting a caring and committed SEN Teaching Assistant to support pupils in the Southampton area. This role involves working with children and young people who have a range of additional needs, including autism, ADHD, learning difficulties, communication needs, and social, emotional or behavioural challenges.
You will work closely with teachers and support staff to provide tailored support, helping pupils access learning, build confidence, and achieve positive outcomes. Support may be delivered on a 1:1 basis or through small-group interventions, depending on the needs of individual pupils.
This is a highly rewarding opportunity for someone who is passionate about making a positive difference in the lives of young people.
The Role:
*Provide 1:1 support and small-group assistance for pupils with SEN
*Support pupils during lessons, activities, and school routines
*Assist with emotional regulation and behaviour support strategies
*Help adapt learning tasks to meet individual needs
*Encourage engagement, confidence, and independence
*Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and support staff
*Promote a positive, safe, and inclusive learning environment
*Follow safeguarding and school policies consistently
Ideal Candidate:
*Experience working with children, young people, or vulnerable individuals
*Patient, supportive, and empathetic approach
*Strong communication and interpersonal skills
*Able to build positive and trusting relationships with pupils
*Adaptable and responsive to a variety of needs and situations
*Reliable and able to work effectively as part of a team
*Backgrounds in SEN, care, youth work, support work, or education welcomed
Contract Details:
*Position: SEN Teaching Assistant
*Location: Southampton
*Start Date: ASAP
*Working Pattern: Full-time, term-time
*Pay Rate:£14.25 - £15.66 per hour
*Key Stages: Primary / Secondary
Experience, Training & Safeguarding:
*SEN or relevant support experience desirable
*Safeguarding training can be provided
*Knowledge of SEN strategies beneficial but not essential
