*Support to access the community and activities
About the Individual
*The individual has Autism and challenging behaviours
*They no longer attend college (finished in July 2024)
*They need support to:
*Access the community
*Build social skills
*Improve communication skills
*Stay active and healthy
They enjoy being active, going for walks, running in the park, and spending time outdoors.
Purpose of the Role
To provide safe, calm, and consistent support that helps the individual:
*Access the community
*Develop social and communication skills
*Stay active
*Feel supported and understood
Main Duties
Community Support
*Support access to community activities
*Encourage walking, park visits, and outdoor activities
*Support attendance at activities suited to interests
Social and Communication Support
*Help develop social interaction skills
*Support communication in a clear and patient way
*Encourage positive relationships with others
Emotional and Behavioural Support
*Support during periods of challenging behaviour
*Use calm, consistent, and positive approaches
*Help the individual feel safe and understood
Family Awareness
*Understand that family is very important
*Be aware that siblings also have additional needs
*Support the individual when they want one-to-one attention
Safety and Wellbeing
*Keep the individual safe at all times
*Follow care plans and risk assessments
*Report any concerns to the team
Skills and Experience
Essential
*Experience supporting people with Autism
*Understanding of challenging behaviour
*Calm, patient, and reliable
*Good communication skills
*Able to work 1:1
Desirable
*Experience supporting young people
*Knowledge of positive behaviour support
*Experience with community-based support
Personal Qualities
*Kind and respectful
*Patient and understanding
*Energetic and happy to be active
*Consistent and trustworthy
*Willing to learn
