Pay Rate: £14.47 per hour PAYE
Working Hours: 8:00am - 16:00pm, Monday to Friday
Contract: Full-Time Temporary Assignment (2 - 3 Months)
Manchester City Council are looking for a dedicated and reliable Caretaker to support the delivery of high-quality housing services across our residential schemes in Blackley. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who takes pride in maintaining safe, clean, and welcoming environments while delivering exceptional customer service to residents.
As a Caretaker, you will play a vital role in ensuring communal areas, buildings, and surrounding grounds are maintained to the highest standards, whilst supporting the safety, security, and wellbeing of tenants.
Day to Day of the role:
*Maintain communal areas, including stairwells, landings, lifts, bin rooms, store rooms, and entrances to a consistently high standard.
*Ensure buildings and grounds are safe, secure, and well-maintained.
*Act as a responsible key holder and oversee the security of the building at all times.
*Conduct routine inspections of communal areas, lifts, machinery rooms, fire doors, and other safety-critical facilities.
*Carry out and record fire safety, health & safety, and legionella checks, escalating concerns where necessary.
*Report, monitor, and follow up on repairs to ensure timely completion.
*Liaise with contractors, surveyors, gardeners, and housing teams to maintain building standards and resolve issues.
*Support the maintenance of communal gardens, green spaces, forecourts, car parks, and external grounds.
*Manage bin stores and waste disposal areas, ensuring cleanliness and prompt removal of bulky items.
*Act as the first point of contact for residents, providing assistance, information, and signposting to relevant services.
*Provide cover across multiple sites and support colleagues within the Caretaker service when required.
*Maintain accurate records and update management systems as required.
*Represent Manchester City Council professionally when engaging with residents, contractors, and stakeholders.
*Previous experience in a caretaker, facilities management, janitorial, cleaning, estates, or maintenance role.
*Knowledge of health & safety regulations and building safety procedures.
*Experience carrying out routine inspections and reporting maintenance issues.
*Strong customer service and communication skills.
*The ability to work independently and use initiative to resolve issues.
*Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
*Experience maintaining records and completing safety checks.
*A flexible approach to work, including covering multiple sites when required.
*A commitment to providing a professional, responsive, and resident-focused service.
*A valid Standard DBS on the update service is required fro this position
