Make a meaningful difference to young people by providing inclusive learning and SEND support across a secondary school. Previous similar experience is desirable, not essential, with comprehensive induction and professional development provided.
Full Training Provided
Previous experience as a Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant or Learning Mentor would be beneficial but is not essential. Applications are welcomed from graduates, career changers and individuals looking to start a rewarding career supporting young people in education.

SALARY: £25,614 per annum FTE (£16,937 Actual) + Benefits
LOCATION: Hedge End, Southampton, Hampshire
JOB TYPE: Part-Time, Permanent
WORKING HOURS: 29.18 hours per week, one day 8:30am - 4:00pm, flexibility to choose the day, excluding Fridays and 8.30am to 3.10pm for four additional days, term time only (38 weeks)


JOB OVERVIEW
This is an excellent opportunity for a Teaching Assistant / Learning Support Assistant who wants to help students with additional needs achieve their potential and become confident, independent learners.
Working across all subject areas, the Teaching Assistant / Learning Support Assistant will provide classroom and small-group support while adapting strategies to students’ individual SEND.
You will work closely with teachers, contribute to student progress and create positive learning relationships. The Teaching Assistant / Learning Support Assistant will also receive ongoing professional learning and development.


DUTIES
Your duties as the Teaching Assistant / Learning Support Assistant include:
*Learning and Classroom Support: Provide effective support to students across subject areas in classroom settings and small groups
*SEND Support Strategies: Understand individual needs relating to cognition and learning, communication and interaction, sensory or physical disability, and social, emotional and mental health
*Student Independence and Confidence: Encourage motivation, independence and confidence while helping students make positive progress
*Teacher Communication: Liaise proactively with class teachers to understand required support and provide feedback on student progress
*Reviews and Student Voice: Contribute feedback to annual review meetings and gather students’ views where required
*Break and Activity Support: Undertake break and lunchtime duties and support extra-curricular and after-school activities on a rota basis
*Safeguarding and Safety: Work in accordance with safeguarding requirements, health and safety regulations and agreed working practices
*Professional Development: Take part in relevant training and professional development and undertake other reasonable duties as directed


CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS
ESSENTIAL
*Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to relate positively to students and teachers
*Resilience, adaptability, patience and a positive, approachable attitude
*A good standard of numeracy and literacy
*Ability to work effectively as part of a team
*Commitment to supporting students with additional needs to develop, progress and become more independent
*Understanding of the statutory framework relating to safeguarding
DESIRABLE
*Previous experience in a similar education or learning-support role
