Full job description Female Domestic Abuse Practitioner - Part Time
Location: Leicester
Salary: £13,624 per annum
Hours: 20 hours per week
Contract: Part-Time
Setting: Domestic Abuse Hostel / Refuge - Office Based
Working Pattern: Rota covering Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday, including 2pm-7pm shifts.
About the Role
We are recruiting an experienced Female Domestic Abuse Practitioner to join a specialist domestic abuse refuge in Leicester, supporting women and children from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) communities who are experiencing or fleeing domestic abuse.
You will provide culturally sensitive, trauma-informed practical and emotional support, helping residents remain safe, access appropriate services and work towards greater independence.
Female applicants only: Being female is an occupational requirement for this role where confirmed by the employer under Schedule 9, Part 1 of the Equality Act 2010.
Key Responsibilities
*Provide one-to-one practical and emotional support to women and children.
*Complete risk assessments, safety plans and individual support plans.
*Identify and respond to safeguarding concerns.
*Support residents with housing, benefits, legal, health and welfare matters.
*Provide advocacy and make referrals to relevant services.
*Work with Social Care, Police, MARAC, health professionals and other agencies.
*Maintain accurate and confidential case records.
*Support the safe day-to-day running of the refuge.
About You
We are looking for someone with:
*Experience within domestic abuse, women’s refuge, VAWG, supported housing, homelessness, family support or a similar setting.
*Experience supporting vulnerable women and/or children.
*Good knowledge of safeguarding, risk assessment and safety planning.
*Strong communication, advocacy and case-management skills.
*Knowledge of Forced Marriage, Honour-Based Abuse, FGM and NRPF would be advantageous.
*An understanding of the cultural barriers BAME women may experience when accessing domestic abuse services.
*An additional relevant community language would be highly desirable.
*Enhanced DBS clearance or willingness to undertake one.
*Ability to work the required afternoon and weekend rota.
