Full job descriptionSEN Teaching Assistant (SEMH Focus) - PlymouthAre you a resilient and dedicated individual passionate about making a real difference in the lives of young people? We are seeking a compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join a supportive secondary school environment in Plymouth. If you are looking to turn your empathy and patience into a rewarding career supporting students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, this is your chance to shine.
What you will be doingIn this role, you will play a pivotal part in the educational and personal journey of pupils in Key Stage 3 and 4 who face barriers to learning. You will help transform lives by:
*Providing tailored 1:1 and small group support to students with SEMH needs.
*Utilising de-escalation strategies and trauma-informed approaches to create a safe, structured, and calm learning environment.
*Acting as a positive role model, building trusting relationships that empower students to navigate emotional challenges.
*Collaborating with classroom teachers to adapt lessons that align with individual EHCP goals.
*Monitoring progress and well-being, sharing key insights with the SENCO to ensure every student is supported effectively.
Who you areYou are a calm, professional, and emotionally literate individual who thrives in a school setting. You possess a strong desire to see every student reach their full potential, regardless of the challenges they face.
*You hold an Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service.
*You have proven experience working with young people with SEMH, challenging behaviour, or complex needs.
*You communicate with clarity, patience, and effective boundary-setting skills.
*You have a Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant qualification or relevant degree/training (e.g., Team Teach, MAPA) is highly desirable.
*You are based in or easily accessible to Plymouth and available for a full-time, long-term commitment.
