Job Description:
Full job descriptionOur client Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council is looking for a Team manager to manage eight Family Help Teams.
The Family Help Service comprises eight Family Help Teams, a Specialist Court Team, a Specialist Edge of Care Service and a dedicated Exploitation Hub. Family Help Teams undertake Family Help Assessments (previously Early Help and Child in Need assessments), Section 47 safeguarding enquiries, Family Help Plans and Child Protection Plans. All public law work, together with some private law work, is managed within the Specialist Court Team.
Each Family Help Team consists of 1 Team Manager, 1 Advanced Practitioner, 5 Social Workers and 3 Family Support Workers. Teams operate a duty model, undertaking duty one week in every eight. During duty week, teams are office-based and manage service intake, receiving on average 45 to 55 children per week.
Solihull has a strong reputation for stable leadership, high-quality reflective supervision and manageable caseloads. Caseloads have remained consistently around 18 children per Social Worker for the past two years, comparing favourably with many local authorities. Contract Length
Initial 3-month contract.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and manage a Family Help Team.
Provide management oversight of assessments, safeguarding enquiries and planning.
Deliver high-quality reflective supervision.
Support staff with complex decision-making and risk management.
Drive performance, quality assurance and practice improvement.
Develop effective partnerships with agencies across the children’s workforce.
Ensure high-quality services and positive outcomes for children and families.
Essential Experience and Qualifications Qualified Social Worker with Social Work England registration.
Experience managing Social Workers within Children’s Services.
Strong child protection and safeguarding experience.
Experience of quality assurance, auditing and practice improvement activity.
Interview Process and Availability
Written exercise.
Panel interview.
Interviews may be held face-to-face or via Microsoft Teams.
Dates to be arranged around candidate availability.
Additional Requirements Essential car user.
If successful, candidates will be required to provide information to support the Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council’s commitment to the prevention and detection of fraud. This information will be processed by the Council’s Internal Audit Services and may be shared with the National Fraud Initiative (NFI) for data matching.
