Job Description:
Full job descriptionWe are currently seeking a tutor to support a Year 10 student who is working towards Functional Skills Maths and English and requires 10 hours of tuition per week.
This is a rewarding opportunity to support a young person who is experiencing significant barriers to education and would benefit from a patient, therapeutic approach to learning.
Student Profile:
*Year 10 student
*Home-based provision
*Working towards Functional Skills Maths and English
*Has experienced autistic burnout and significant anxiety surrounding education
*Lost confidence in their academic abilities
*Has not engaged with Maths since Year 7 and currently has a strong mental block around the subject
*English skills are below expected levels and require targeted support
*Presents with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, alongside underlying autism and social communication differences
*Displays some compulsive/OCD-type behaviours, which have become more prominent recently
*Ongoing relationship-building is essential, as the student needs time to develop trust with adults outside of their family
The successful candidate will:
*Have a good understanding of autism, anxiety and autistic burnout
*Be comfortable delivering Functional Skills English and/or Maths
*Use therapeutic, non-directive approaches, including emotion coaching and validation
*Be confident building rapport before introducing academic work
*Recognise signs of distress and adapt sessions accordingly
*Be patient, flexible and focused on rebuilding confidence and engagement with learning
Essential Requirements:
*Minimum 6 months’ experience within education
*Experience supporting young people with additional needs is highly desirable
*Comfortable delivering Functional Skills English and/or Maths
