Job Description:
Full job descriptionWe are working with a fantastic business whose HQ based in Darlington who are looking for a proactive, hands-on Company Accountant / Management Accountant to take ownership of the finance function for a growing £6m turnover business at an exciting stage of its development. This is a broad, start-to-finish role for someone who enjoys variety, takes pride in accuracy, and is equally comfortable with transactional detail, cash collection, month-end reporting and commercial analysis.
This is a standalone finance role for the company, supported by the UK Group Finance Director and the wider AP team. The successful candidate will be the day-to-day finance lead for the business, taking ownership of the full finance cycle outside of AP, while the Finance Director retains responsibility for final board pack review, budget oversight and senior finance support.
The business is at the start of its next phase of growth and is supported by a £60m turnover sister company, with access to established head office support, and a larger £1.5bn turnover parent company. This gives the successful candidate the opportunity to join at a point where they can genuinely shape how the finance function develops, while still working with the backing and governance of a larger group.
This role is ideal for an all-round accountant who wants ownership and accountability. You will be responsible for the full finance cycle for the company: billing clients, chasing debt, managing cash flow, preparing month-end journals in Sage 200, producing the monthly reporting pack, reviewing the P&L, supporting budgets, preparing VAT returns, supporting audit requirements and ensuring key compliance areas are properly controlled.
This is not a role for someone who wants to sit above the detail. Until the business grows further, the successful candidate must be comfortable doing everything required to keep the finance function running accurately and on time, from transactional tasks through to management reporting and analysis.

*Supporting VAT returns, PAYE Settlement Agreement work, audit requirements and other statutory compliance matters.
*Helping prepare budgets, forecasts and financial analysis to support decision-making.
*Working directly with the Managing Director on client cost book updates, bid proposal numbers and commercial reporting.
*Using Excel to analyse financial information, identify trends, investigate variances and improve reporting quality.
